Hermès was founded in 1837 by a French named Thierry Hermès. In the early years of the company, it specialized in saddles and other fine leather goods, before expanding its brand into fashion in the 1920s. Today they have become known not only for ready-to-wear fashion and leather goods, but also for a line of Hermès fragrances.
Hermès perfumes was launched in 1951 with the launch of Eau d'Hermès for men and women. Created by Edmond Roudnitska, this unisex fragrance has a warm leather and spicy citrus scent. It has since become the brand's signature perfume and is still in production today.
After the release of Hermes' first perfume, the fashion brand continued to grow in popularity. When Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco was photographed wearing a Hermes bag in 1956, it was renamed the "Kelly Bag" and further promoted the company. In 1961 Caleche, a Hermes perfume for hair, was launched. It was such a success that it helped establish the brand as a top contender in the world of perfume. Equipage, the first Hermès cologne for men, was to follow in 1970.
